Many individuals who follow the Nutritarian diet write to Dr. Fuhrman about their success. Keep in mind that results vary from person to person. As always, consult your physician if you have a medical history and/or condition that may warrant individual recommendations.
Elizabeth lost 47 pounds and is free of her stressful health issues, including IBS, fibromyalgia and acne
My Eat To Live journey began almost four and a half years ago. At that time I was at the end of my ability to cope with my health and even life. I am an extremely active wife and mother of five boys, and I didn't have time to be sick. But I was very, very sick. Just to name a few of the health problems I was facing: fibromyalgia, acne, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), depression, anxiety, gluten intolerance and lactose intolerance. Many of these symptoms were diagnosed years ago, and some were becoming very acute.
My life now is so different than it was four and a half years ago. They have certainly been years of ups and downs, mostly emotionally. I lost 47 pounds and feel fantastic. I'm so grateful for the gift of health, as I no longer have any IBS symptoms, my fibromyalgia is in complete remission, my skin is clear, and every other health issue is gone.
My husband and I haven’t only made a difference in our own lives; we have become role models to so many who are watching us in our small town in Eastern Oregon. My husband is a family practice doctor here, and after he and I lost our initial 35 pounds (in about three months), our lives changed. We started running, walking, and biking all over town. Our favorite family sport is hiking/backpacking. I began swimming again and entered my first Sprint Triathlon in August of 2008. I was asked to join my first relay running team two years ago, and we ran a total of 65 miles.
I began to teach mini lectures at my church to small groups who wanted to make a difference in their own lives, and the lives of their families. Everywhere we go, friends, patients, neighbors, the checker at the grocery store, everyone wanted to know how we lost the weight and what we were doing. Our local book store keeps Eat To Live and Eat For Health on the shelf at all times now because whenever my husband has a listening ear, someone who he feels is really ready and willing to make a change, he recommends Dr. Fuhrman's program and sends them down to Betty's Books to get their own copy.
I've also been asked by our local school district's food manager to help her as she is completely revamping the foods in the schools. I am also working directly with my husband as we create a Wellness Clinic in our small town, offering workshops, lectures, consultations, health screenings, sports medicine, and smoothies!
My initial motivation to read Eat To Live and follow the six week plan was to lose weight. I didn't even have a hope that any of my health issues would disappear. But then I read Eat To Live and my mind was opened to so many new ideas. It became the spring board for seeking further knowledge in the area of health, nutrition, and disease prevention. I've read every book on Dr. Fuhrman's suggested reading list and several other books many times, and I attended one of his Health Get Getaway. I really enjoyed meeting and getting to know several members of his staff. Living this lifestyle these past few years, I have discovered so many revelations about myself. I am a food addict, an emotional eater. But I've also been given a gift. The gift of knowledge, and what it really means to be healthy. Saying thank you Dr. Fuhrman just doesn't seem adequate.
