After losing 88 pounds Doris, a fifth grade teacher, can participate in sports with her students
My weight loss journey began in May 2011. As a fifth grade teacher, I thought I was just exhausted from a particularly challenging class. I was very short-tempered and impatient. The school year ended, and I spent the entire first month of my vacation sleeping. I realized that I was very depressed. My diet was horrendous; a lot of fast food and very little fruits and vegetables.
I started Eat To Live when I saw Dr.Fuhrman’s Eat To Live special on PBS. I was so intrigued that I ordered the book. In my entire life-long struggle with weight, nothing made as much sense to me than Dr. Fuhrman’s Nutritarian diet. When I was making the transition to eating more healthfully I created a few non-negotiable rules for myself. One, I will not eat at work unless I bring it myself. My work place is a place of continuous eating; cookies, cake, chips, dip, bring in your favorite treat. Though it was difficult to resist in the beginning, now I don’t even look over at the food table. Second, if the food does not have nutritional value, I do not eat it. Will power? Not at all! I have not been sick since starting this journey in June. I have not experienced heartburn or indigestion. My sleep patterns are more regular. I can run, ride my bike, and play sports with my students. My blood pressure last month was 80/48. I am currently training for a 100 mile bike ride being held in June.
I have lost an average of ten pounds a month since the beginning of July. That is a total of 88 pounds. I am happy with my current size: I started out as an 18/20 and I am a size 10 now.
I plan to live a long and healthy life. Eat To Live and Dr. Fuhrman continue to help me structure healthier meals. Words cannot express my gratitude and excitement for Dr. Fuhrman and Eat To Live.
