Many individuals who follow the Nutritarian diet write to Dr. Fuhrman about their success. Keep in mind that results vary from person to person. As always, consult your physician if you have a medical history and/or condition that may warrant individual recommendations.

I am 5’7” tall and most of my adult life till the mid 40’s I weighed between 118-125, pounds a size medium (8-10). I have eaten a Mediterranean diet and was aware of the importance of diet and exercise for one’s health. I do not take any prescription medications. During the last 20 years I started gaining about a pound each year. After I retired, 6 years ago, I started intermittent fasting, eating within an 8-hour window and continued my exercise consisting of walking 2.5 to 3 miles 6 days a week, 5 times a week, fitness classes twice a week and occasional dancing. I never smoked and I had a glass of red wine maybe three times a year and a glass of sparkling wine on my birthday and at New Year.
I read Dr Fuhrman’s Eat to Live book in 2011 and incorporated some of the recommendations. I had joined Dr Fuhrman’s membership a year before and prepared some of the recipes. I thought I was doing well. Last year my husband and I took a 6-week car trip across USA and Canada. Of course, during this trip there was a lot of sitting in the car and eating at restaurants. During the trip I noticed that my size 10 pants were too snug and became uncomfortable. So, I bought several pairs in size 12. When I got home, I realized I had gained 10 pounds. That was my wake-up call to do something. And luckily that coincided with Dr. Fuhrman’s detox class. I enrolled and asked for my husband’s support (he is the main cook in the family). From November to May 25, I lost 24 pounds (BMI 24.9 to 21.1) lost 5.5 inches in the waist and 5.25 inches in the hips. I continue to lose 1-2 pounds per month. My husband, who followed the nutritarian lifestyle about 90% of the time lost 23 pounds (BMI 30.3 to 27). (At one point he had lost 26 pounds, but he took a one-week trip and gained back 3 pounds).
This class was life changing, from intellectually knowing the theory and understanding the nutritarian lifestyle to the practice of actually having the recipes and a menu to guide us on the journey. The recipes were intriguing (a brownie with black beans?) and surprisingly delicious. I am so glad to be back in my Medium, size 10 clothes (I already donated all the size 12s I bought last year, since I do not intend to go back there). The only thing I still struggle with is the balance between socializing and going out to eat (which seems to be the favorite form of socializing here). I usually eat before I go out and try to find something least offending on the menu (a soup or a salad) or stick to drinking mineral water.
Thank you, Dr. Fuhrman, for an excellent life changing program. Thank you, Lisa, for the eye-opening session on the membership benefits. I had the membership for almost two years and knew very little other than the recipes and the book club. Jenna, thank you for the session on building healthy habits, for telling me about the feature in recipes where I can adjust the number of servings and get the proper instructions and on the dark chocolate sweetened with dates information (dark chocolate is one of my weaknesses but I have no problem in having a small piece only now).
