Theresa is thrilled with her 102 pound weight loss and says living a healthy lifestyle is the best anti-cancer strategy
I lost 102 pounds following the Nutritarian program and it has given me hope and my life back. I am making choices that are best for my health, and am absolutely having an adventure doing it. I was always pudgy, had tried numerous diets over the years, low-fat, Weight Watchers, Atkins, Slim Fast, etc. I would lose some weight and then go right back to eating anything when I couldn’t afford the diet anymore. It seemed like eating “normal” made me gain weight.
In 2008 I got married, and that happiest day of my life was also the worst day of my life as I was the heaviest I had ever been. Looking in the mirror, I couldn't believe what I saw; at 5ft 2in. I weighed 227 pounds. I was horrified. I was 47 years old and was on cholesterol medicine and knew that diabetes and heart problems were just around the corner. It was an effort to walk a short distance, and even tying my shoes became a challenge. I was having chest pains and afraid that I was getting close to my first heart attack. I was desperate and had given up hope that I would ever be in control of my eating and health.I went to a local health food store, and an employee, no more than 24 years old, had just lost 130 pounds by following Eat To Live. He explained Dr. Fuhrman’s high nutrient eating style to me, and said that he wasn’t hungry and was healthier than ever before.
I wanted to live. So I bought the book and started by cleaning out my kitchen cupboards. I haven't looked back. Now I have just 21 more pounds to go to reach my ideal weight of 104 pounds. I’ve gone from size 20 to a size 2. I now have energy and stamina, and I’m no longer on cholesterol medication, plus my skin has even become soft and clear. I ride a bike, and have a Y membership where I swim and walk. I also love exercising on my little rebounder trampoline at home. My goal is to run a 5 K fundraiser for my sisters and friends who have passed with cancer, and I know I will make it. I went from 227 pounds to 125 pounds, cholesterol 227 to 182; LDL 148 to 109. HDL 65 from 59; blood pressure 140 / 90 to 112 / 65; waist circumference 40 inches to 26.5 inches
It took me about a year and a half, but the weight came off quickly, and I have stayed at 122 pounds for over a year and a half now. The best part is my high cholesterol diagnosis was taken out of my records, and I have been off the statin drug for two years now. Since I am the only living daughter, I am taking Dr. Fuhrman's guidance and strictly following the Nutritarian diet style to avoid the same early death my sisters had. It is my anti-cancer strategy! Thank you Dr. Fuhrman. Your work saved my life.
