Many individuals who follow the Nutritarian diet write to Dr. Fuhrman about their success. Keep in mind that results vary from person to person. As always, consult your physician if you have a medical history and/or condition that may warrant individual recommendations.
Janet tried "forever" to lose weight, now she lost 41 pounds and says "life as a Nutritarian is wonderful"
This is the one -year anniversary of being on the Nutritarian diet and I am very happy to say I have lost 41 pounds (going from 227 pounds to 186 pounds). I have also ceased to have acid reflux or edema in my feet and ankles. Since the edema is gone my doctor has taken me off Hydrochlorothiazide 25mg. My doctor weaned me off of it slowly and I completely ceased to take any amount in early April. I took it for years and am so glad to see it go! My blood pressure and cholesterol levels were down during my late January physical also so my doctor decided not to put me on a statin drug which had been in my future according to her plans for me. I now have the blood pressure of someone younger than my 76 years and my doctor is very happy with all my test results.
Additionally, my dental hygienist found my gum health has improved from 4s and 5s as she probes to 2s and 3s. (see note) According to her experience this is consistent with decreased inflammation in my body. Over all I feel great and have much more energy. I have less problems with arthritis and am able to once again work in my garden.
I had been told to lose weight forever and nothing worked in the long run. I saw a Dr. Fuhrman PBS program and what he had to say made sense to me so I ordered his book The End of Dieting, read it cover to cover and plunged in. I have not looked back and my only regret is I can't convince my husband to join me.
Note: Meaning of numbers: The dentist is measuring the depth of the pocket between your gums and each tooth in millimeters. Smaller gum numbers mean healthier gums.
