Many individuals who follow the Nutritarian diet write to Dr. Fuhrman about their success. Keep in mind that results vary from person to person. As always, consult your physician if you have a medical history and/or condition that may warrant individual recommendations.
Allison resolved her multiple health issues including Irritable bowel syndrome and finally felt well enough to have a baby
In 2008 I was diagnosed with lymphangioleimyomatosis (a rare cancer-like lung disease). This was not the first time that I had received a scary medical diagnosis. When I was eleven I was diagnosed with tuberous sclerosis. Now I was scared. I was only thirty, but I was pre-hypertensive, had acne, chronic headaches, protein in my urine, and was often exhausted. I had Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) since I was a teenager and had accepted it as normal. I took over-the-counter pain medication daily for my headaches and plodded along with the mantra, “when the going gets tough, the tough gets going.”
Luckily, I didn’t have to tough it out indefinitely. Within weeks of starting Dr. Fuhrman’s Nutritarian diet, my headaches went away. After a couple of months, my blood pressure started lowering and for the last two years it has been consistently around 100/62. It took about a year for my acne to go away. At the time, I thought my skin would never clear up, but it did. I no longer have any appreciable amount of protein in my urine. The IBS took longer to improve, but for the last three months, my bowel movements have been normal and I have less painful cramping.
Those are quantitative measurements. Here are the qualitative measurements that truly exemplify how transformative Dr. Fuhrman’s Nutritarian diet has been in our lives. With the diet change, I felt healthy and better than I had ever felt, and we decided to expand our family. Our daughter was born in April 2010. She is a very healthy, strong baby and brings joy into our lives. I am grateful that I was healthy and able to have her. As a direct result of Dr. Fuhrman's holiday challenge our family did not gain weight during the holiday season. We enjoyed a more peaceful holiday together eating for health. We are committed to a Nutritarian diet, and we sit down together as a family to enjoy dinner as often as our schedules allow.
