I want to say thank you so much Dr. Fuhrman for giving us a successful plan of eating. I just could not lose the extra weight that has plagued me for many years. It also baffled me how I could maintain my high weight just eating two to three meals a day. I thought I was just meant to be fat and that was it.
I have discussed my weight problem with my doctor many times and on one particular visit she gave me Dr. Fuhrman's book Eat To Live. I read it front to back and wanted to try a few of the recipes. My husband and I both enjoyed the recipes, but we were still not following it 100 percent until my husband's blood pressure shot up and his medication was now twice a day at 40 mg a day and his sugar was rising as well. During a doctor's visit his blood sugar reading was 212 and the doctor immediately prescribed 500 mg of metformin. He was not given any other route to take from his doctor just medication. He didn't want to take another medication. He came home so discouraged from his doctor visit. I pulled out Eat to Live book and began making recipes and we have never looked back!
I also read The End of Dieting, The End of Diabetes and Super Immunity. We made blended salads in all kinds of varieties of greens in the beginning for one and sometimes two meals and after a month began adding fruit to our blended salads. Then we incorporated the one pound of raw and then the one pound of cooked veggies, and now we are so very aware of our G-BOMBS intake. I have cooked and prepared over 100 recipes and counting, repeating quite a few of them. My husband never took the diabetes medication that was prescribed. He lost weight and got better. We did it on our own through healthy eating! He lost 25 pounds, his waist was 48 inches and now it's 39 inches and his blood pressure is 120 and his blood sugar is 118. I'm so happy.
During this seven month period I thought I was just taking care of my husband, but I was also taking care of me! I educated myself on how to eat healthy and how to prepare healthy foods. I too lost 28 pounds and still counting. I have gone from a size 12 to a size 2. I also used to have a bad case of rosacea along with being overweight, and that has disappeared. I look in the mirror and I still can't believe it, a smaller me. Since this time we have also inspired so many of our family and friends, and they too have added some healthy foods into their lives. Dr. Fuhrman we are so grateful for the knowledge to take back our health.
