When my friend, Leslie started telling me about Dr. Fuhrman’s diet while we were hiking, I had little interest because I felt I was too old to change my diet in order to see any differences. When she assured me that the diet could help osteoporosis, I started considering her advice more carefully. She gave me Eat for Health and Eat to Live Cookbook, for Christmas. After reading these books and The China Study, I started to gradually change my diet. Leslie even convinced me to go to a Dr. Fuhrman conference for a week-end in November.
My diet, before transitioning, was basically good with servings of food from all four food groups at each meal, but it lacked a wide variety of nutrients. I felt somewhat foggy mentally at times, needed naps during the day, had mitral valve prolapse with supraventricular tachycardia episodes up to six times a day, and I have severe osteoporosis. When I transitioned to Dr. Fuhrman’s diet, my overall health started to change in a very positive way. Suddenly, I noticed my palpitations were gone. That was a major difference because the palpitations were seriously interfering with my life each day and this condition did not respond to medication. I did not want an ablation. My mind felt much clearer and I no longer needed to search for words. My hair stopped falling out and took on a beautiful shine. I have not had any new cavities in over 20 years. My eye doctor said my sight and cataracts are equivalent to what he would expect for someone 10 years younger. I do not take any prescriptions. I rarely need naps any more. My mood is much better. I get fewer colds. My osteoporosis is still a problem, but strength and balance training have helped me to avoid fractures.
Needless to say, I am extremely thankful for this diet. It has helped me live and feel like someone 10 years younger.
