Many individuals who follow the Nutritarian diet write to Dr. Fuhrman about their success. Keep in mind that results vary from person to person. As always, consult your physician if you have a medical history and/or condition that may warrant individual recommendations.
After a high blood pressure scare that sent Richard to the ER, he immediately changed to a Nutritarian diet and within a short time his blood pressure is normal
I have had chronic high blood pressure most of my adult life, also some light chest discomfort at times. While at our vacation home at Martha's Vineyard this summer I took blood pressure on a home machine. It was 206/126. My cardiologist sent me to the ER room. .
At the time, my meds were: Diltiazem - 240 mg in the evening; Olmesartan-HCTZ 40-25 mg in the morning. Also, a small dose of Statin - 5 mg per day. Eliquis for AFIB. The hospital added 25 mg of hydralazine twice a day.
I then immediately went on Dr. Fuhrman's Nutritarian diet plan. I only supplement with fish once or twice a week. As a result, I haven't felt so good in several decades. I actually want to exercise more since going on the diet.
My results now are:
* My typical blood pressure previously was in the 145/90 range and often spiking to 160/110. I saw immediate results from the diet and within two months my blood pressure readings range from 1 20/80 to 95/70.
* After one month I reduced the hydralazine to 10mg twice a day and after 6 weeks on the diet I quit taking this med altogether.
* Today. less than 3 months from beginning the diet, my cardiologist recommended cutting the Olmesartan HCTZ in half, and may in a couple of weeks to decide to cut more meds out. He emailed me: "your blood pressure control is quite remarkable."
My cardiologist’s only concern with Dr. Fuhrman's recommendations is whether "you can stay on such a strict diet." Fair question, but I have two responses. First it isn't that strict as the plant- based recipes are delicious, and second, the alternative of facing even more serious health problems if I didn't change makes this diet a no brainer.
Results may vary.
