Many individuals who follow the Nutritarian diet write to Dr. Fuhrman about their success. Keep in mind that results vary from person to person. As always, consult your physician if you have a medical history and/or condition that may warrant individual recommendations.
After ten years of desperately trying to lose weight, Christina lost 35 pounds and was able to wean off her diabetes medication
For over ten years I had been struggling with a weight gain and insulin resistance that resulted from Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. I worked very hard to lose weight after gaining about 50 pounds prior to being properly diagnosed. Over those ten years, I would exercise five to six days a week, count my calories, and ate a vegan diet. I would lose one to two pounds a year with a lot of hard work. I happened upon a movie Dr. Fuhrman was featured in and looked him up. I read Eat To Live, and learning the scientific information that backed his diet style, decided to make the commitment.
The change from my vegan diet to the Eat To Live plan was not very drastic, but I began to drop weight without changing anything else. I was still training for my first half marathon when I switched (I had not been losing weight during my training at that point in time). I had more energy and slept better. My adult acne cleared up after a few weeks. Between April and November, I lost 35 pounds. My blood sugars also normalized and I was given the option to wean off my insulin resistance medication (Metformin). Around the holidays I eased up and ate the Eat To Live diet about 85 percent of the time (adding bread and some desserts on special occasions). Even through the holidays, I kept my weight at the 35 pound loss. Whenever I stray too far from the Eat To Live diet, I start to have small break outs on my face and my energy drops. That is my cue to go buy more vegetables and focus on making the best choices for my food intake.
