Many individuals who follow the Nutritarian diet write to Dr. Fuhrman about their success. Keep in mind that results vary from person to person. As always, consult your physician if you have a medical history and/or condition that may warrant individual recommendations.

A mother and daughter story: daughter avoided kidney failure; mom, who suffers from Alzheimer, lost 57 pounds and is enjoying a better quality life
My mom has Alzheimer. She had a stroke and heart attack approximately ten years ago, and the onset of dementia/Alzheimer about nine years ago. My older sister helped my mom lose 40 pounds over several years, but as the Alzheimer progressed there were many setbacks, including overdosing her medication for type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol.
In June 2012 I began taking my mom to water aerobics in an outdoor heated pool in our community. I would help her in the class while my eight year old took lessons. My mom has forgotten how to swim. She was a true inspiration to all the women and young girls at the outdoor pool. They all called her grandma and said “if grandma can do it then I don’t have an excuse.” She was also walking three to four miles per day. She walked in several 5k races and inspired many in our community. She told everyone about Dr. Fuhrman and how she no longer needed medication. When she couldn’t remember something she had me give them all the information while she just smiled. She was very happy with herself and what she was accomplishing.
She has continued to inspire so many people at the club that I can't keep enough of Dr. Fuhrman's cards. She encourages others to eat their beans and greens and big salads and sends them off with a hug and a smile, especially the little white headed men. She also enjoys her seated yoga and range of motion classes.
When my mom arrived at my home in June 2012 she weighed 211 pounds. She now weighs 154. She was wearing a size 18 and now wears a size 12. Her blood work is also amazing. She has me tell others how the numbers have improved and people are shocked. We were able to enlist Dr. Benson’s help. His specific dietary guidelines helped us be more productive in her weight loss.
As for me, in 1993 when my kidneys were not functioning well, I was and still am very grateful that I came across the American Natural Hygiene Society and subsequently Dr. Fuhrman who helped me to avoid kidney failure. I am grateful to be alive twenty years later to assist my mom in giving her more quality years. I am her fourth child and have never seen my mom this small or healthy. Our gratitude goes beyond any ability to measure.
