Don believed his flagging health was due to aging; changing his diet he is off medication, has more energy and a better outlook on life
For the past ten or so years I would say my health and wellness ranged from miserable to mediocre. I assumed this is how one feels as you age. While my wife and I considered ourselves vegetarians, it was more about our love of animals rather than eating well. We tried different diets but never really felt better. While we were driving one Saturday afternoon, Dr. Fuhrman was on our local NPR station presenting his Eat To Live book. We were immediately enthralled by his excitement and confidence. We purchased the book and committed to it. Although some of the recipes scared me a bit, we forged ahead and about two weeks in, my wife asked me how I felt and initially I gave her a shrug and said I don't know. I guess I wasn't expecting this to actually work.
She pointed out that I seemed to have more energy. I would normally come home from work with a headache and exhausted. Now, I wasn't tired and had the energy to continue working when I got home. I just kept feeling better as the weeks went by. The weight wasn't a huge concern of mine. Most who knew me were surprised I was "dieting" and commented they didn't think I needed it. The weight just came off. The food we were eating was delicious and it made it so easy. I knew what choices to make when I had to eat in a restaurant.
The most important thing that has happened is that I no longer feel the "end" can't come soon enough. When you feel that miserable, you don't see the point of it. You can change your life with food. Now I'm off my medicine for high blood pressure and cholesterol. My sleep apnea improved as well. I tell anyone who will listen about Eat To Live as I really think it could improve many aspects of society. Dr. Fuhrman is an American hero!
