1 cup water
1/4 cup steel cut oats
1/2 cup diced apple

1/2 tablespoon ground flax seeds
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla bean powder or alcohol-free vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon cardamom

Just made this for breakfast and wow. So flavorful and filling. Subbed 2 chopped dates for the raisins & almond milk for the water. Very happy with this breakfast. Will follow it with a green peppermint tea. YUM.

I always disliked oatmeal but since I am eating healthy now,, I had to step up to the plate,, so I went to the store & I got Bob's Red Mill Old Fashioned Rolled Whole Grain Oats. I followed the recipe and added strawberries and  a little flaxseeds that I ground in my coffee grinder & added  a few cut up organic Dates for extra sweetner. I am a oatmeal lover now

Dear "oyesitis...".  I hope you enjoyed your recipe you made.  This recipe calls for Steel Cut Oats, a whole, new different oat.  It's tiny and chewy, and very delicious.  I, too, am a fan of old fashioned whole grain oats, I hope the recipe turned out as you expected.  Bob's Red Mill also has an organic, 100% whole grain Steel Cut Oats (also known as Irish Oats).  We learn something new every day, don't we.

The directions on the Steel Cut Oats box calls for 1.5 cups of water per 1/4 cup of oats and simmering it for 25-30 minutes uncovered after its brought to a boil. Cooking it the way its explained on the box is much better than the recipe found on this website. Other than that, this is generally an enjoyable and very good selection.
