Becky is free from constant pain caused by a rare autoimmune disease
I was diagnosed with PMR a very painful autoimmune disease that attacked my major muscles. It took me more than forty five minutes to get out of bed and dressed for the day. I couldn’t raise my arms so showering was difficult and painful. Walking was slow and laborious. A specialist said they didn’t know what caused it or cured it, but steroids alleviated the pain. So I began taking a daily dose of prednisone. After a month I had serious side effects, including weight gain, high blood pressure, swollen tongue, sleepless nights, mood swings, etc. I knew I had to get off the drugs, so I weaned myself off slowly, and the pain came back, every day, all day.
Someone suggested that PMR might be triggered by a food allergy. Never having any allergies, I thought this strange, but I was determined to try anything. So I randomly took myself off foods (soy, wheat, and corn, dairy) for six weeks and then started adding some back. I soon discovered that gluten was one of the triggers for my pain, so I stopped eating anything with gluten in it. But I knew I was still sick and my doctor said I was still sick.
I work for Whole Foods Market who sponsors an Immersion program with Dr. Fuhrman. I learned from Dr. Fuhrman’s program that I didn’t have to live the rest of my life in pain or on medication. Dr. Fuhrman talked about how learning to eat the right foods could reverse the effects of my disease. Hallelujah! Finally, I had hope that I could beat this disease and live a normal life. All the reading could not have taught me what I learned that week. I will be forever grateful to Whole Foods Market for sponsoring this and allowing me to go. I am proud to say that I have now followed a Nutritarian diet for only eight months and it had changed the way I think about food and the way I live.
Thirty five pounds lighter, my cholesterol and blood pressure are both in a healthy range, and I am even happier to say that the PMR is not even a factor in my life. I can run, raise my arms (now to hold a new granddaughter), shower and dress with no pain! People who know me ask how I got healed and I tout the advantages and sing praises for the Nutritarian way of eating.
