Vitamin D Supplementation and Total Mortality
People who take supplemental vitamin D have lower mortality rates, according to a meta–analysis of randomized controlled trials published in the September 10th issue of Archives of Internal Medicine.1
Low vitamin D status seems to be associated with higher risk of developing life threatening conditions including cancer, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes. These diseases account for 60–70% of total mortality in high income countries like the United States. Deficiencies in vitamin D are also known to be associated with increased risk for falls and fractures.
Eighteen trials with a total of 57,311 participants were evaluated in this study. Those participants with higher vitamin D levels showed a significantly lower risk of dying from all causes including cancer, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes.
Vitamin D is obtained from exposure of our skin to sunlight. People who avoid the sun or work indoors are at risk for vitamin D deficiency. In addition, it has been shown that from November through March, people living in more northern latitudes do not get sufficient vitamin D from the available sunlight.2
As winter approaches and more time is spent inside, it’s time to stock up on Dr. Fuhrman’s Osteo–Sun for the additional vitamin D your body needs.

Fall allergy season is here. In the fall, ragweed and other weeds produce enormous amounts of the pollen that plagues allergy sufferers. Molds and late blooming trees can also cause fall allergies.
Dr. Fuhrman’s Perilla Sinus is a natural supplement designed to help relieve allergy symptoms, such as sneezing, nasal symptoms, and itchy eyes and skin.
Perilla is a medicinal herb that has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for hundreds of years. Research has shown that the perilla seed extract is a rich source of polyphenolic compounds including luteolin and rosmarinic acid.3 These compounds help to reduce allergic responses by inhibiting the enzymes that induce allergic and inflammatory responses.4 They may also inhibit the release of histamine and lower elevated antibody levels in allergic persons.
Perilla Sinus, combined with nutritional excellence, provides the beneficial phytonutrients your body needs to target the allergy response and reduce allergy symptoms over time.

| Testimonials |
Dear Dr. Fuhrman,
I wanted you to see my progress pictures at 100 pounds down and to tell you how much I have benefited from your website and member center.
- Eat to Live has improved pretty much every aspect of my life: I look better; I feel better; I'm happier, and I'm much more physically active.
- Following the plan = weight loss. There were times last winter and earlier in the summer where it was very hard to follow the plan 100%. When I do eat 3 ETL meals a day and exercise, I lose weight. When one thing falls out of balance, I don't.
- I still have just slightly less than 60 lbs to lose to reach my initial goal. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that I'll be able to get there. (Up until now, I said things like this to psych myself up and create a self fulfilling prophecy - it worked.)
Thank you to everyone in the Member Center who has and continues to provide insight, tips, and encouragement. Having this community is indispensable when surrounded by people eating the Standard American Diet who think that you're "weird" or "extreme" or "on a very restrictive diet."
- Nicole
